Unfortunately, the problem of the homeless is not something which is simply going to disappear overnight. In fact, current government policies regarding housing benefit could see homelessness rise in the UK. For anyone who is experiencing homelessness, the situation is dire and help is desperately needed. If you are worried about the homeless of the UK, there are things you can do to help.
Donate
If you have a few pounds to spare each month, then you may wish to consider donating it to St Mungo’s. We will put your money to good use in helping the homeless of London and the South East. Any donations you can afford to make to us would be a great help to the homeless we look after. For example, a donation of £10 per month could help to ensure that our outreach van is never short of fuel and £20 could help us to teach 5 homeless people to read and write – vital skills which could help them to secure work and get off the streets.
Volunteer
If you are the hands on type and would like to help the homeless, you may wish to volunteer some of your time to make a difference. There are lots of ways to volunteer to help the homeless; you could volunteer at your local homeless shelter or spend some time teaching the homeless to read and write. There really are so many ways you can make a difference.
Fundraising
At St Mungo’s we are always overjoyed when any of our supporters undertake fundraising activities for us. You could organise a sponsored run or have a raffle, whatever you do to help the homeless will be greatly appreciated and the money will certainly be put to good use.
