My next-door neighbor’s garage is an absolute menagerie. He has everything in there from used pool tables and Hepa vacuum cleaners to old dartboards and engine blocks. I try to tell him that he could probably make a fortune if you decided to have a yard sale, but he just can’t seem to bring himself to part with his treasures. He said that he spent a lifetime amassing this stuff and just couldn’t part with any of it. I told him that I would give him $75 for the brand-new Hepa vacuumthat he’s got in there, which is only a few dollars below its retail price, but he just doesn’t want to do it.I’ve tried to talk to his wife about this issue, but every time I bring it up she just stops me dead in my tracks. She says that she’s tried to get him to clean this thing out for over five years, but that he just can’t seem to do it. But every once in a while all the stuff comes in handy, she says. Last month she needed a new hot water heater timer and all she had to do was walk into the garage to get it. I told her that she could have just as easily gone to the store to pick one of those up, and had a clean garage in which to park her car when she returned.
